RALPH MCCULLOUGH WA3YFQ IS A SILENT KEY.
Ralph McCullough WA3YFQ, became a silent key on Tuesday December 10, 2024. McCullough was 70 years old. He is survived by his wife Beverly McCullough and his son Chris McCullough KC3CJU, also from the New Port Richey area.
McCullough was first licensed in 1973, and was a very avid amateur radio operator for the rest of his life. McCullough was a very active member in the Gulf Coast Amateur Radio Club, including being past president, and was currently serving as the club secretary. McCullough was the SKYWARN coordinator for Pasco County, and served in ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services), and had served as ARES Emergency Coordinator for Pasco County. McCullough was also a Volunteer Examiner with the Laurel VEC. McCullough was an avid digital mode operator, enjoying PSK, RTTY, JT-65, and enjoyed FT-8.
In his professional career, McCullough was an officer with Carroll Township Police Department (Pennsylvania). Becoming a Corporal within the department, McCullough served Carroll Township for thirty-one years, acquiring recognition and multiple injuries on the job. McCullough also was a long-time and well-respected member of the Carroll Township Fire Department, as well as an EMT. McCullough retired after his last injury with his police department, in 2007. Shortly after his retirement, McCullough relocated to Pasco County, partially to escape the cold winter weather.
A memorial will be held in Florida at a future date. McCullough’s ashes will be spread into the Gulf of Mexico as he wished. There will also be a memorial service in Pittsburgh at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Wounded Warriors, Tunnel to Towers, St. Judes Children’s Hospital, or The Shriners Hospital for Children.
