WCF SECTION PRESS RELEASE #59

SECTION MANAGER VISITS TARCFEST, LAMBIEFEST, AND PASCO COUNTY HAMFESTS IN SEPTEMBER

On Saturday August 22nd, Darrell Davis KT4WX, Section Manager, attended and help to facilitate the ARRL table at the August edition of the TARCFest, at the Tampa Amateur Radio Club clubhouse in north Tampa and the last one in 2015. Steve Elliott KS4WA, DXCC Card Checker, and Carl Zelich AA4MI, Assistant Director ARRL Southeastern Division, assisted Davis with the ARRL table. Zelich was collecting signatures for the Amateur Radio Parity Act of 2015 and Elliott was available to check any QSL cards for DXCC credit.

On Saturday September 12th, Darrell Davis KT4WX attended and facilitated the ARRL table at the 8th Annual Lambiefest at the Tropical Gulf Acres Clubhouse just south of Punta Gorda. The hamfest was well attended and had sold out all their tables inside the clubhouse and the tailgating area was almost completely filled. A good time was had by most that attended, except for a few that got their vehicles stuck trying to leave at the end of the Lambiefest following an approximate ½ hour downpour near the end of the Lambiefest. The downpour worsened the soil saturation from all the rain in July and August.

On Saturday September 26th, Darrell Davis KT4WX attended and facilitated the ARRL table at the Pasco County Hamfest which was held on the grounds of the Gunn Highway Flea Market in Odessa. Gary Mentro N3OS helped Davis with the ARRL table, while promoting Pasco County ARES.

WCF SECTION PRESS RELEASE #51

ARES GROUPS AND AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS STAND DOWN AS TROPICAL STORM ERIKA DISSIPATED

ares-cl-lrg

On Saturday 8/29/15 at 0930, the National Hurricane Center issued a statement saying that Tropical Storm Erika had lost its low level circulation, and had degenerated in a trough of low pressure. As a result Tropical Storm Erika no longer meet the criteria of being a tropical cyclone, and the National Hurricane Center stopped issuing advisories on Erika.  Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) Groups and amateur radio operators across the West Central Florida Section were preparing themselves for possible activation in providing shelter communications.  Also the emergency preparedness team at ARRL HQ had pledged their support if it was needed.  As a result of the dissipation of Tropical Storm Erika, ARES groups across the West Central Florida Section and amateur radio operators stood down by the end of Saturday 8/29/15.

Darrell Davis KT4WX, WCF Section Manager and Ben Henley KI4IGX, WCF Section Emergency Coordinator, wish to thank all ARES groups and amateur radio operators who had been on standby and were reading themselves to deploy if activated by their served agencies, and to thank the emergency preparedness team at ARRL HQ for their support.

The WCF Section encourages all amateur radio operators to continue routine monitoring of the latest Tropical Storm Outlooks issued by the National Hurricane Center daily, as hurricane season may be diminished but is not over until 11/30/15.
